I was working with a fairly new, somewhat green arabian, named Blue, when I discovered Becca and started taking regular lessons with her.  She quickly realized we had to get Blue on "our team," as he was somewhat nervous and high headed.  The lessons were more than just riding lessons--use of natural horsemanship techniques to get Blue relaxed, and willing were only the start.  With plenty of reward for both of us, the lessons became something we both looked forward to.  Each lesson was a quantum leap ahead.  Now we are still progressing quickly with Becca's keen eye, wealth of knowledge of correct muscle use for the rider and sympathetic attitude for the horse. Becca is quick to praise and gentle with corrections, so you come away lighthearted and eager for the next step.  Blue is interested, calm and eager to learn new things.  I have been involved with horses for almost 40 years and I can't say enough about Becca's lessons-- they are a unique blend of natural horsemanship and body awareness techniques--I truly feel we are finally on the right path.

After 5 long years of looking, I have finally found a riding instructor for my daughter. Having ridden for over 30 years, and having taught riding myself, I had very specific ideas about what I was looking for in an instructor for my little girl. I was looking for an instructor who could teach proper equitation, but could also make riding fun and exciting without reducing it to gimmicky fun and games. Rebecca has a wonderful method of teaching children equitation and horse/ rider biomechanics, while making the learning process fun and natural. Becca’s energy and enthusiasm are amazing. Gone are the days of the bored, lazy instructor sitting on a jump in the middle of the ring barking out commands. Becca has a hands-on approach that keeps the kids enthusiastic and focused. My daughter is so excited to ride every week with Becca. She has instilled in my daughter a love of riding, a love of the animal, and respect for the methods necessary to become a successful rider.

I have been so impressed with Becca’s teaching that I have started taking lessons with Becca myself. Her knowledge of biomechanics has allowed her to pick up some problems in my own seat that have been plaguing me for years. Becca is also well versed in the principles of natural horsemanship and has taught me how to effectively deal with some issues relating to my horse’s behavior. I am so pleased with the results so far. Like my daughter, I cannot wait for my next lesson with Becca.

Regardless of your own, or your child’s, ability, I cannot recommend Rebecca Hathaway highly enough. Her breadth of knowledge allows her to offer so much to any rider, in virtually any discipline.  From basic horsemanship, all the way to eventing and dressage, she has so much to offer.

My 8 year old daughter loves taking riding lessons at Shady Hill Farm!  Rebecca's approach to teaching combines expert horse knowledge with creativity in meeting each student “where they are” in their riding abilities.

Whether it's learning proper horse care, riding, “pony yoga” exercises or feeding the pony at the end of the lesson- Rebecca makes it all fun. A strong emphasis is put on being not only a competent rider, but a SAFE rider, and each student is encouraged to ride to the best of his/her abilities. Under Rebecca's instruction my daughter's riding skills and confidence have greatly increased, she always looks forward to "riding day" Thanks Rebecca!!
